Encapsulated O-ring Chemical Resistance

Encapsulated O-ring is a combination of rubber elasticity and sealing and Teflon chemical resistance, it is made of silicone rubber or fluoroelastomer inside and a relatively thin Teflon FEP or Teflon PFA outside, this rubber plus Teflon o-ring will have excellent sealing performance.

General rubber o-rings (O-rings) are more easy to wear, poor chemical resistance and gas permeation resistance (except for FFKM), while pure Teflon O-rings are harder and more resistant to compression but less flexible. Teflon FEP/Teflon PFA ORING has good resistance to solvent rise and chemical stability (except at high temperature by metal, fluorine and some halide), and has good elasticity near the rubber part of the o-ring (O-ring). These properties make the Encapsulated o-ring truly suitable for use in harsh environments.

The combination of a dense, uniform and joint-free Teflon FEP/Teflon PFA cover and a rubber core provides a consistent seal throughout the Encapsulated o-ring. The elastic and compressive strain at each point of the o-ring is uniform and can be re-installed under constant pressure. As the media pressure increases, the o-ring is compressed and the Encapsulated o-ring acts like a highly viscous liquid, transmitting the pressure acting on it in all directions without reduction.

 

The presence of a Teflon FEP cover makes the Encapsulated o-ring resistant to hardening and brittleness, while the silicone or fluoroelastomer core allows the seal to maintain good elasticity at temperatures up to 200°C.

Test results of FFKM rubber, FKM rubber and FEP/PFA covered o-ring in a compression device show that the physical properties of silicone rubber or fluoroelastomer combined with the chemical properties of Teflon FEP/Teflon PFA result in a covered o-ring with good compression resistance while maintaining rubber properties.
